Tim Thomas raising the Lord Stanley Cup
Fresh on the heels of taking a bold personal stand in deciding to not attend a White House function hosted by Barack Obama (read article here), the NHL’s Boston Bruins’ stellar goal tender Tim Thomas has taken yet another bold stand for liberty, addressing Obama’s current assault on religious liberty with this posting on his Facebook page on February 8:
“I Stand with the Catholics in the fight for Religious Freedom.”
Thomas then followed up his brief remarks with this quote from “First they came”, a poem by prominent German anti-Nazi, theologian and Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller:
“In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
This time around, however, the sports and news media have shown more restraint in criticizing Thomas’ private life as they had following his quietly and uneventfully made decision to not attend the White House function. Undoubtedly, because the media are still licking their wounds following the overwhelming verbal beat down they received at the hands of many thousands of people overwhelmingly supporting Thomas’ rightfully made decision.
Thomas is regarded as a quiet and humble family man, despite rapidly becoming known as one of the NHL’s all time best net minders. And, to the chagrin of his few detractors, perhaps even because of these, Thomas appears to be well on his way to becoming one of the most powerful and respected voices for liberty in New England, and perhaps nationally.
I invite you to join me in following and expressing our support for Tim Thomas on his Facebook page, as, under pressure, he courageously continues doing some extremely heavy lifting for the cause of liberty.
So nice to see someone defending our freedoms while they slowly disappear.
I agree, Sean. Hey, btw-great site you have there! Just followed and destined to make it a frequent haunt.
Well thank you very much! I’ll definitely be stopping by your site in the future again as well. Don’t be alarmed by the length of time I went without writing this week…I usually write daily!
