WASHINGTON, D.C., February 16, 2012 A new study examining small-business access to credit reveals that even while the (slow) economic recovery sent demand for credit on an upward trajectory in 2011, the real estate overhang continues to depress small-business growth and curb capacity to borrow. In 2011, the number of small employers obtaining credit from financial institutions was approximately the same as the two years prior. However, demand for credit increased in 2011, meaning more small employers were shut out of the credit market than in prior years.

NEW YORK — America’s nuclear energy facilities operated safely and reliably in 2011, with solid performance in electricity production and operating efficiency in spite of a year of numerous challenges from natural events in the United States and Japan.

In a briefing sponsored by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the industry told Wall Street financial analysts recently that U.S. nuclear power plants were subjected in 2011 to extreme weather events that included a series of tornadoes, a major hurricane, Midwest flooding and an unusually large East Coast earthquake.
